September is always a busy month at Formula Photo, with Targa Newfoundland being the annual highlight. This year (2011), we had the pleasure to produce daily videos for the Chrysler Group and their DriveSRT team.
Specifically, our main focus was on the Dodge Viper car crewed by SRT CEO, Ralph Gilles, and co-driver, Jen Horsey. Targa Newfoundland is a challenging event to shoot, and even more so to deliver dailies. Covering an event that spans over 2500km of roads in five days requires a good movement plan, plus elements like internet access are marginal in many parts of Newfoundland. We spent several nights in hotel lobbies waiting for videos to upload! Never the less, Targa is a one-of-a-kind event and we wouldn’t want to miss it! This was Year 5 for us, and we hope to be back again next year.
This was also our first production shot entirely on Canon DSLR’s, and the look of the footage is fantastic. The DSLR’s are not as easy to shoot with, but with a few add-ons (rails, audio breakout, etc.) and a good camera operator, they can be just as good in the field.
